Winter - Outdoor Recreation

Our newest season of outdoor recreation offers some of the most fun you can have

Advantages of the winter program

  • Experience unique experiences such as our ice-climbing wall.  It is the only one like it north of Saskatoon
  • Get rid of the winter blahs by taking on a new adventure as a class or group.

Activities

Winter Experience (takes up two activity slots)

You’re snowshoeing through the pristine white forests of Northern Saskatchewan and you realize you are lost.  What will you eat? Where will you sleep? How will you stay warm? The Winter Experience is a 2-3 hour program designed to teach you some basic survival skills, how to build shelters and how to build a fire. You may even get to cook some food over an open fire.

Broomball / Ringette

In 1909 Saskatchewan founded the game of broomball. Using broom shaped sticks and a soccer ball sized ball, Broomball is very much like hockey- without the skates! Passing, scoring, offense, defense and being the goalie are all explored in the exciting fast-paced game played on our custom built playing area.

Ringette is a team sport played on our outdoor natural ice rink. Using the speed of hockey and the skill of basketball, players use a straight stick to control a rubber ring and score goals in the opponent’s net.  Students will get a chance to learn some basic knowledge and experience this thrilling game.

Tubing

Want to feel the crisp winter wind flow through your hair? Desire the exhilaration of speed? Tubing is for you! You’ll be soaring down our custom built tube hill on our heavy duty snow tubes. Race against the clock and challenge your peers or teacher to see who can travel the farthest.

Ice Wall

Get a chance to experience climbing a 40ft vertical ice wall.  Learn the basics of climbing techniques, climbing gear, and the difference between normal rock climbing and specialized winter ice climbing.

Challenge Course

Our Challenge course consists of a series of obstacles designed to challenge groups and individuals to work together to accomplish a task. From trust activities and group initiatives to cooperative activities and problems, the challenge course program is designed to develop self-confidence, cooperation amongst the group, decision-making skills, leadership, goal setting and teamwork.

Snow-carving

Learn some basic techniques to do snow sculpture carving then let students creativity come out as they get a chance to take a 4x4x6 foot block of snow and turn it into whatever they can imagine.

Snowshoeing

Snowshoeing at Camp Kadesh will take your group through the beautiful forest out onto the open landscape. Learn about why snowshoes work, their history, spot animal tracks, identify trees, forge your own path… Be prepared for the adventure of a lifetime.

Team Building Games (TBG)

These games are a set of problem-solving exercises that require the entire group's participation to solve. Initiatives give the students the opportunity to develop their problem-solving skills, listening and cooperation skills, communication and creative thinking. Students will plan, discuss, set a goal and then participate as a group to accomplish the task at hand.  This skill will be outdoors weather permitting.

Compass Orienteering

In orienteering the students will learn the basics of how to use a compass, the parts of a compass, and how to follow a bearing. Then, working in small groups the students will navigate all over camp, finding clues to solve a problem.

Map Orienteering

In orienteering the students will learn the basics of how to read a map.  Working in small groups the students will navigate all over camp, finding clues to solve a problem.

Snow Volleyball

Do you love the snow? Do you love volleyball? Well then, why not combine the two? Bump, volley, spike and dive into the snow while enjoying the beautiful winter at Camp Kadesh. Challenge your teachers and instructor to endless possibilities of games you can play.

Evening Activity Choices:

Campfire

The Kadesh OREC team will provide a campfire experience filled with fun interaction.  There will be a mix of fun songs, character development challenges, and wrap it up with a Kadesh staff sharing a personal part of their story and how the decisions they made changed them to be the person they are today.

Movie Night

We will set up a theatre style experience with popcorn, where the students will have a chance to relax and enjoy watching a movie together.  *The school must provide the movie*

School Run Session

This option is for you as a teacher to run a session that you feel is best for you, and your students.

Student Talent Show

The Kadesh OREC team will facilitate the running of a talent show where students will have a chance to demonstrate their gifts and talents, while the OREC team adds some unique Kadesh experience.
